My first post. How to be healthy.

Health. That word means different things to different people. To me it means the ability to enjoy my family, have good checkups with my doctor, and look and feel how I want while doing the physical activities I like. To someone else it might mean being cured from a disease that has affected them, or losing 10 pounds after the holidays, or having more positive thoughts and less worry.

No matter what the word means to you, there are many ways to achieve what we consider our “optimal health” and that’s what I want to talk about in this post and future posts. I will discuss nutrition, exercise, physical and mental health, and niche things that I enjoy like cycling, running, resistance training, and other sports. I will also create workouts that you can do at home or at the gym that are safe and effective.

Here’s how I see it, we need a few things in life to be healthy and happy:
  • A good home life-
    • This sets us up for success by having a good support system.
    • This can be different for everyone.
  • A good work life-
    • If you are not happy at your job, your mental and physical health will suffer, not to mention the stress.
  • Physical Health-
    • This can be achieved by a healthy diet and exercise as well as monitoring key indicators such as:
      • blood pressure
      • cholesterol
      • blood sugar
      • cancer screenings
  • Mental Health-
    • The first three on this list will have a lot to do with your mental health state, but there is more to it than that.
    • Some people are prone to certain mental health conditions like depression and anxiety, for instance. It’s important that they seek support from friends, family and professionals because someone out there wants to help.
It’s nice to see this in list form: A few things in life to be healthy and happy. It’s a bit like making a to-do list. When you make the list you feel accomplished and you have a direction. So now we have a direction. Our health is fluid and always changing and we have to work every day to reach our goals, but I will be here to give ideas and strategies to reach these health and wellness goals.

In my next post, I'll dive into a really popular subject: How to Lose Weight. Millions of people struggle with weight loss, there are many reasons for this and one of them is because there is so much misinformation out there on the subject. I will quell some myths and give you the information you need to make it happen. Also, check out my home workout post, with pictures and descriptions of how to do a workout at home for beginners.
